Volcano Hybrid Error 02 and Other Common Problems: What to Check
Error 02 (shown as ERR 02r) on a Volcano Hybrid means the unit is outside its specified temperature range or has overheated internally. Storz & Bickel's fix is to switch the Hybrid off, unplug it, and leave it at room temperature for at least 30 minutes without operating it. If the error is still there after 30 minutes, contact the Storz & Bickel Service Center. Do not open the device.

1. Reading the Error Codes
When the Hybrid has a fault, the display shows ERR on the first line and a number plus a letter on the second line. The letter tells you what kind of problem it is:
- A number plus "r" means a fault that a device reset can clear. Perform a factory reset.
- A number plus "n" means an irreversible fault, and the device needs service.
The manufacturer lists these messages:

2. Error 02r Step by Step
- Switch the Hybrid off with the HEAT and AIR buttons, and remove the filling chamber and balloon once they are cool enough to touch.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
- Leave the unit at normal room temperature for at least 30 minutes. Do not run the heater or pump during that time.
- Plug it back in and heat up as normal. If the display is clear, you can carry on.
- If ERR 02r appears again, contact the Storz & Bickel Service Center rather than trying to fix it yourself.
Because the code points to temperature or overheating, give the unit a proper rest and run it on a flat, stable surface afterwards. Repeated 02r errors are a sign of a fault, and Storz & Bickel lists "device displays error code ERR 02r" among the faults it handles in its paid repair service.
3. Factory Reset
For an "r" error, the manual describes a factory reset: while the unit is switched on, press and hold HEAT for about 10 seconds. A short light sequence on the display confirms it. Be aware of what it changes:
- The set temperature returns to 180 °C, and the booster offset is set to 15 °C above that.
- The automatic switch-off returns to 30 minutes.
- Display brightness returns to 80%, and the sound that signals the set temperature is switched back on.
- Bluetooth is switched back on if it had been off.
- Your Celsius or Fahrenheit choice stays as it was.
Re-apply any custom settings afterwards, either on the unit or in the Web App.
4. Weak or No Vapor
Not every problem shows an error code. If the Hybrid is on but vapor is thin or absent, work through the causes in order. Most are simple:
- Temperature. Check that the actual (orange) and set (white) temperatures match before you start the pump. Starting the pump before the unit reaches temperature is an easy way to end up with a thin first balloon.
- Chamber fit. Make sure the filling chamber is screwed on correctly and that the balloon or tube is attached properly. A loose join lets air escape.
- Fill level. Fill only to the lower edge of the hopper and do not pack the herb. See our filling chamber guide.
- Screens. Clogged or bent screens slow the airflow. Brush them after every session, and replace them when they will not clean up. A fresh Easy Valve normal screen set costs very little.

- Chamber assembly. If the upper screen is out of its notch, herb can travel into the balloon. Take the chamber apart and reassemble it carefully.
5. The Hybrid Switches Off by Itself
The Hybrid has an automatic switch-off that is set to 30 minutes at the factory. After that time with no activity it turns the heater off, and you can change the timer in the Web App. If the unit stops sooner, check that the plug and cord are seated, and try a different wall socket before you suspect a fault. 6. Bluetooth and Web App Problems
The Web App is optional, but connection problems are common because browsers differ. The manufacturer's checklist is:
- Reset the device.
- Switch the Hybrid off for 5 minutes.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your phone, restart the phone, then turn on Bluetooth only.
- Make sure no other Bluetooth device is connected to the Hybrid.
- Open app.storz-bickel.com in a supported browser, then switch on the vaporizer.
On Android, Location Services must be on. On iPhone, use the Bluefy browser. Our setup guide lists the supported browsers. If your serial number contains an "O" or a "0", try swapping them when you register.
7. Habits That Prevent Problems
A few minutes of care after each session reduces the chance of trouble later:
- Switch the heater off when you finish, and let the Hybrid cool completely before you pack it away.
- Run the unit on a flat, stable surface, and check the mains voltage rating on the label matches your supply.
- Brush the screens after every session and wipe the chamber with isopropyl alcohol when it looks sticky. Dry it fully before the next use.
- Do not over-tighten the chamber on the outlet. The manual warns that too much force can damage the threads and the device.
- Replace balloons and tubes about every two weeks, and never share them.
- Keep the firmware up to date through the Web App so you are not caught out by a bl 000 message.
8. When to Contact Service
If the tips above do not help, or for any fault not listed, the manual says to unplug the unit and contact the Storz & Bickel Service Center straight away. Do not open the Hybrid, because without special tools and knowledge any attempt will damage it, and it voids the warranty. The manufacturer's paid repair service covers faults such as the device not heating, not reaching the set temperature, a noisy or failed air pump and a display that does not work. When you contact them, have your serial number and the exact message you saw ready.
Final Thoughts
Error 02r sounds alarming, but Storz & Bickel's answer is calm and simple: switch off, unplug, rest for at least 30 minutes and try again. Most other problems come down to a handful of cheap, replaceable details: a match between set and actual temperature, a well-seated chamber, clean screens and a fresh balloon.
